There are many laboratory relocation projects conducted around the U.K, however they are not quite on the same scale as this one. The first stage of the development process has been exposed by Manchester Science Partnerships, who discussed the 400-acre life science campus, which is located within Alderley Park, Cheshire.
Existing Building
The existing lab facility buildings of Alderly Park have now been vacated by the former site owner AstraZeneca, and they are ready to be scientifically enhanced into a 300,000 sq ft centre for innovative and growing businesses.
Plans
At MIPIM, a property conference in Cannes, Bruntwood and MSP who are partners of the project agreed to commit £30m over the next three years in order to assist towards delivering an innovative workspace. The workspace will include impressive specialist labs, flexible offices as well as manufacturing facilities. Moreover, designs will take a central focus around a newly designed communal atrium, internal courtyard and enhanced conference facilities.
The laboratory relocation has created an opportunity for change. The entrances of the new buildings have also been discussed. A focus point of tenacious visual impact is in place, and opportunities will feature for potential retail and café facilities.
Rowena Burns, CEO Manchester Science Partnerships said: “Our bold scheme for this once forgotten building demonstrates the sheer scale of this opportunity at Alderley Park. With 300,000 sq ft of additional space, we are taking the first major step towards expanding the business community here, and fulfilling our commitment to provide 7,000 high-value jobs within the next ten years.”
Furthermore, Michael Jones, Councillor Leader of Cheshire East Council has said: “We hope that, with the right strategic planning framework in place, we can create a unique, self-sustaining hub for the life science sector at Alderley Park. That is why, alongside AstraZeneca and Manchester Science Partnerships, Cheshire East Council has committed to invest £5m in a new investment fund to support the development of established companies on the site. Alderley Park represents an exciting opportunity that is vitally important to our economy and to the strength and growth of the life sciences industry in the North West as a whole.”
